Let's Dance! A Ballerina Birthday Party

Johanna Knapp

Squad Goals right here!  Everything about this little ballerina birthday, (recently featured in the latest issue of Mingle magazine!) is SO adorable! From the pink tutus, ballerina shoes, little girls dancing and sweets. I had the privilege of working with Sasha Anderson and creating the sweets for the dessert table for her daughter's 5th birthday.  We designed ballerina shoe sugar cookies, cupcakes topped with ballerinas and a pink ruffle cake.  A perfect touch to this girly party.  So much creativity was put into the design and events of this affair that you are sure to find many pin worthy ideas!  I hope you enjoy these images from Kelly Clare Photography as much as I did. :)

Irish Soda Bread

Johanna Knapp

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I have so many fond memories of celebrating this day. Growing up, my mom would dye our milk green at breakfast and dye our sandwich bread green too for lunch. And of course all the fun of wearing green to school so that I wouldn't get pinched. ;)  My mom would then make a full St. Patrick's Day meal for dinner with corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and our much loved Irish Soda Bread.  As I've grown older, I've come to know the true meaning behind this holiday, although little leprechauns are fun too, I'm thankful to celebrate what Saint Patrick did so many years ago.  Below is our family's Irish Soda Bread recipe. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.  Leave me a comment if you do try it.  I'd love to hear about it!

Irish Soda Bread (makes two loaves)

4 cups flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 Tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon soda

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup butter

2 cups currents (or raisins)

1 egg

1 3/4 cups buttermilk

Mix dry ingredients together and cut in butter till small pea size. Beat egg and add to buttermilk. Add buttermilk mixture to flour mixture and stir until combined.  On a floured surface, knead 2-3 minutes. Shape into 2 rounds loaves. Place loaves on a cookie sheet and cut a cross into the tops.  Bake at 375 for 35-40 minutes.
